Grow With Us!
Ottumwa, Iowa is a community on the rise and rich with development opportunities!
Our Community
Located in Wapello County in the southeast region of the state, our community is growing in both population and diversity, with over 25,500 residents. Ottumwa has seen significant investment over the past few years through a revitalized downtown district and a number of sizable developments, which have spurred a great deal of additional commercial interest in Ottumwa.
Locally owned businesses, as well as national corporations, continue investing in our community through expansion and/or opening new facilities in Ottumwa. The expanding commercial districts and industrial base make Ottumwa a strong, viable and expanding community.
Housing Demand
Through progressive partnerships between City government and private business and industry, we are looking forward to an era of growth and are seeking partnerships to expand housing opportunities to our residents. A recent housing study illustrates the demand for 500 new housing units in Ottumwa–from market-rate single-family to multi-family to senior living facilities.
Available Incentives
In addition to traditional tax abatement avenues, the City of Ottumwa is taking a proactive approach to make development in our community a successful endeavor.
The Build Ottumwa program provides a $10,000 economic development grant to construct a new single family home valued at more than $125,000. Grants are paid at the time a certificate of occupancy for the new home is issued.
Coming Soon: Shovel-Ready Prototypes
The City of Ottumwa has contracted with 1919 Architects, P. C. to develop pre-approved single- and multi-family housing plans at no cost to the developer. The project reduces the expense associated with design and permit fees and allows you to get to building sooner.
